Why Your Systems Needs to be Tested, Adjusted, & Balanced

Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB) are crucial steps performed to ensure proper operation of HVAC units. The primary goal of performing TAB is to commission your system, which verifies the design, installation, and operation are efficient. Commissioning can be done initially, on a new system build or on an existing build that has never before been commissioned, called retro-commissioning. Re-commissioning is available for systems with previous verification, looking for an updated evaluation.

Commissioning begins with a detailed visual inspection of the equipment to ensure installation is up to code. The next step is witnessing the equipment operating from start up, shut down, and everything in between. Once the commissioning process can be verified and everything is confirmed up to code, then TAB can be performed.

TAB begins with an initial documentation on the current conditions of the HVAC equipment. Important aspects evaluated are voltage, amperage, and airflow measurements. In a typical inspection the technician will adjust the fan speed to bring it within proper range for efficiency. Once the air and exhaust fans are balanced, the building pressure can be measured. Building Pressure is taken at the main entrance of the building. Ensuring the pressure is within design range will alleviate drafts and improve infiltration. Click here for more information
